One of the darkest of Golden Age origin stories, the opening panels of the Spectre's first appearance feature our hero, Jim Corrigan, stuffed into a barrel, encased in cement and drowned, a grisly fate even by pre-code standards. Returning as a spirit of vengeance, Corrigan then goes on his merry way, smiting evildoers in increasingly ironic manners, their deaths becoming more and more gruesome. This surreal and unforgettable series has proven to be a cult favorite.

The title More Fun Comics stands in ironic opposition to the dark tale contained within this issue's pages. Invented by Superman co-creator Jerry Seigel, the Spectre's origin story spanned three issues, and soon after the anti-hero went on to become a popular figure in DC's stable, eventually joining the Justice Society of America and, later, enjoying a renaissance in the mid-90s. The recent resurgence in popularity led to increased interest in the character and, increased value in Spectre books in general.

Featuring the origin and first appearance of the Spectre, this comic is timeless and beautiful, thematically dark in tone, but wondrously vintage. Four colors vividly illuminate the imagination as sharp, crisp corners adorn the edges. With nary a flaw to be seen, one can contemplate the central image without distraction. Aesthetic perfectionists rejoice, your comic has arrived. Just don't forget to take your eyes off this beauty and find time to bid.
